Hi there..We woke to 34 degree temps and snow showers this morning, Jan. 10. High winds caused a change in itinerary. Stromness is home to the whaling camp that Shackleton found after hiking over the mountains after landing on South Georgia. It is an abandoned camp now. Some hearty passengers did the 5 mile hike this morning retracing Shackletons steps to Shackleton's Waterfall, which is at the point where he could see the camp. We chose to view from the ship, however Rick has now gone ashore to try to get some pics of the camp and wildlife on the beach, which I will add a little later.
This afternoon we will sail to Fortuna Bay, South Georgia to view a colony of about 7000 pairs of King Penguins, seals and babies.
Enjoy the pics! Rick & Paula
